Professor Dr. Rudolf Kippenhahn originally studied mathematics and physics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg before changing to Astronomy. From 1975 to 1991, Professor Rudolph was director of the Max Planck Institute For Astrophysics in Garching, Munich, Germany. Since 1991, Dr Rudolf has been an active published author in Goettingen, trying to popularise astronomical science research, in the same vein as Stephen Hawkings writing, for which he won the Bruno H. Bürgel prize. His books cover such diverse topics as astronomy, cryptology and atomic physics. In the year 2005, Dr Kippenhahn was honoured by the Royal Astronomical Society with the Eddington medal for his scientific research into the computation of the structure of star and of stellar evolution.

It is generally grouped together with three other of Poe's stories, namely "King Pest", which first appeared in the Southern Literary Messenger in September 1835, "The Cask of Amontillado", published in Godey's Magazine and Lady's Book 33 in 1846, and "Hop-Frog", published in The Flag of Our Union in 1849. Since all these stories take place dur-ing the carnival season, they are called "The Masquerades".In her book "The Life and Works of Edgar Allan Poe. A Psycho-Analytic Interpretation", Marie Bonaparte takes a Freudian approach to Poe's stories, Sigmund Freud himself wrote the preface, and claims that all the above tales are connected to Poe's father com-plex [Bonaparte, 507]. In her interpretation of "The Masque of the Red Death", the figure of the Red Death is an incorporation of the father who returns to punish the son.This is just one reading of the story. Much has been published about "The Masque of the Red Death", one of Poe's most read tales. Scholars have tried to find its roots, like Burton R. Pollin, who assumes that Poe used his own "Shadow - A Parable" as a source for "The Masque of the Red Death". Others attempted to compare the story of Prince Prospero and his followers to other great works of art, for example Christopher Brown, who saw parallels between "The Masque of the Red Death" and Henry James's The Portrait of a Lady. A lot of research has also been done on the narrator of the tale - I will only elabo-rate on the most plausible theories on who it is that is telling this tale. Equally important, "The Masque of the Red Death" is said to contain one of the most exact definitions of the grotesque in the literary sense.Finally, as almost all of Poe's tales, "The Masque of the Red Death", too, contains an in-credible amount of symbolism. Everything from the significance of blood over the impor-tance of the number seven in mysticism to the meaning of colors can be traced in this tale, which must also be read as an allegory and a memento mori.

Seit dem Jahr 2000 konnte der deutsche Onlinehandel die Anzahl der Konsumenten, die im Internet einkaufen, verdoppeln und damit deutlich schneller wachsen als der übrige Einzelhandel. Laut einer Studie von Forrester Research tätigen bereits mehr als 36 Millionen (Mio.) Deutsche ihre Einkäufe regelmäßig online. Allein im ersten Quartal 2013 erzielte die deutsche Online- undVersandhandelsbranche dabei einen Umsatz von über zehn Milliarden (Mrd.) Euro, welcher etwa um 19,4 Prozent über dem Vorjahresumsatz lag. Ein Anteil von 81,5 Prozent wurde dabei durch den Onlinehandel erzielt.Viele neue Unternehmen möchten von dieser Entwicklung profitieren und drängen auf den Markt, um ihre Produkte online zu vertreiben. Nur wenigen dieser Unternehmen gelingt es dabei jedoch einen hohen Bekanntheitsgrad zu erlangen undsich durch den Aufbau einer starken Marke von der Masse an Mitbewerbern abzuheben. Eines der Unternehmen, welches dies erreicht hat, ist Zalando. Keine andere Marke im deutschen Markt konnte bislang schneller einen so hohen Bekanntheitsgrad erreichen, als der im Jahr 2008 gegründete Onlineshop, der sich auf den Vertrieb von Schuhen und Kleidung spezialisiert hat. "95 Prozent aller Bundesbürger kennen das Label inzwischen, fast so viele wie die Weltfirma Daimler, die auf eine mehr als 125-jährige Geschichte zurückblickt." Dabei nutzt die Marke Zalando vielfältige Marketingmaßnahmen, um ihrer Marke und ihrem Markenversprechen Ausdruck zu verleihen. "Entscheidend ist hierbei, dass die Marken systematisch geführt werden und letztlich die Vorstellungsbilder hervorrufen, die der Marke und dem markierten Produkt dienlich sind."Bereits im Jahr 1903 wurde der deutsche Markenverband gegründet, welcher inzwischen über 380 Mitglieder zählt. Die Betrachtung von Marken und deren Einfluss auf den unternehmerischen Erfolg ist demnach keineswegs neu, steht aber nach wie vor im Fokus sowohl der Marketingwissenschaft als auch der Marketingpraxis.

From 1929 to 1933, Volz studied at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. He received his doctorate in 1935 under Hans Geiger at the University of Tübingen.

This volume presents the results of the international symposium Chunks in Corpus Linguistics and Cognitive Linguistics, held at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg to honour John Sinclair's contribution to the development of linguistics in the second half of the twentieth century.
